Story Whispering

Sometimes writers simply need laser-focused ears, eyes, and heart for getting their story moving again, be it because something is not working in the plot, theme, the writer’s personal life, or more. Anni brings 25 years of trainings and resources, along with attention, attunement, and intuition in order to coach writers through the process getting unstuck.

Coaching

with Anni or Emily

Coaching focuses more on the author and the big-picture creative process rather than editing the words on the page. We work with the author in a conversational way to help meet their next goal/s. Coaching is a series of ongoing sessions over time, the amount determined based on client need, project need, and schedules.

Coaching can be beneficial at any step of the writing and publishing process.

Manuscript Review

with Emily or Anni

For writers who are looking for big-picture feedback about where their work stands and what to do next on their journey towards publication.

These evaluations are like jet-fuel. They combine our coaching skills and writing experience with clear next steps. Next steps may include, but are not limited to, feedback on structure, missing or unnecessary scenes, character development, tone consistency, etc. Clients consistently leave feeling inspired and prepared.

This process usually takes 2-4 weeks, based on our schedules.

Developmental Editing

with Anni

For writers who have done substantive work towards a complete manuscript.

Anni first reads your manuscript to see if it is ready for a developmental editor and/or if she is the person best suited for your manuscript. If not, she will refer you forward. If your manuscript is, indeed, a good fit for her skills, then the process can begin.

Anni works in a highly collaborative, creative way. She gets her hands in the text and helps direct the author on how and where to add scenes, take out unnecessary parts, move chapters here and there…whatever is needed to sequence details into a story that has consistent tension and a developing message. This may include: Organizing the plot, creating/expanding scenes, developing characters, adjusting pace in order to craft tension, create emphasis, and build emotional connection with readers.

Line Editing

with Emily

Line editing is a process of looking at your work on a sentence level, ensuring your prose sings. Line editing is for you if you’ve done the big picture work already, your manuscript is nearly finished, and you’re ready to zoom in to the details.

Emily works methodically through your manuscript, offering suggested edits that you can choose to embrace or ignore.
